YOU CANNOT ALWAYS AVOID A TRAGEDY FROM OCCURRING AROUND. YOU, BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS AVOID ONE FROM OCCURRING WITHIN YOU.

Most of our days are spent thinking about work, obligations, and others. Almost all of us get out of bed to earn the money we need to maintain our lives. Still, inside that functional self is a spirit that was made for more. You are not a worker bee. You are a spiritual being, a lifeforce with a greater purpose and a calling. Your life is bigger than just your job title. How do we shift our energy to tending our true selves – and how does healing the wounded inner self then positively affect the professional, functional self – without all the emotional labor?

We are unique and have a unique purpose. Like flowing water, we impact this earth and the lives on it. One aspect of your life took a hit. Everyone knows how that feels.

“CHAMPIONS ARE PREPARED TO DO THINGS THEY DISLIKE TO CREATE SOMETHING ELSE THEY LOVE.”

Tossing and turning in our sleep only brought us closer to another day, another beginning. Sometimes the day brought pain, and we wondered when that pain would end. Deep down our spiritual selves know there is a purpose to all of this. There are lessons to be learned so that we can become our highest selves and live our highest purpose. We just have to open ourselves up to the possibilities.

Inside of you, there is a spirit that longs to explore the beautiful world. It wants to be delighted; it wants to sing. It is your spirit’s nature to observe everything around you and find beauty and meaning. Learn to listen to your internal voice: the one that narrates your dreams and whispers encouragement every time you’re considering a new leap. That’s your spirit pushing you to grow and to go.

To find spiritual healing, you need to let your spirit roam. Your spirit can wander when your sights are no longer a few inches away from your face. Indulge your spirit. It is curious. It wants to marvel at the world.

Your spiritual self doesn’t have a job beyond yearning to understand the world around you. If you want to heal your spiritual self, the first step is to listen to it. Lift your chin and look just beyond your gaze. There is beauty out there, and your spiritual self knows where to find it. Get out of your space.

Let your spiritual self lead you so you can see everything that leads to greater understanding. The way to connect to the spirit is to lift your gaze. Perhaps you are part of a faith tradition that nurtures the spiritual self. Imagine that you were stranded at sea. Rather than continuing to stare at the perpetual expanse of water for direction, look toward the horizon for clues to help you re-orient yourself.

We all have a spirit, whether we read a holy text or follow the teachings of a prophet. Visit the pearls of wisdom of your religion or practice because your spiritual teachers have similar advice. “I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from?” the Bible asks in Psalm 121, before answering, “The Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forever. We were not made to be wrapped up in guilt and sorrow, waiting for our lives to be over. We are here to live and to be happy.”
